US envoys meet hostage families

Steve Witkoff and Adam Boehler, the two American envoys to the Middle East, met with hostage families in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, following the release of Israeli-American Edan Alexander after 584 days in captivity in Gaza, according to the Families Forum.

"During this nearly two-hour meeting, the two officials emphasized their personal commitment to bringing back the remaining 58 hostages, both alive and deceased," said the association that represents the majority of families of hostages held captive in Gaza.

"Witkoff insisted that they will accept nothing less than the return of each one of them" as this is the stated goal of Donald Trump, the statement said.

Negotiations for the release of the hostages are set to take place this week in Doha, alongside a visit by the American president to the region.

Witkoff stated, according to this communiqué, that the two men believe "there is a real possibility of progress in the negotiations."

The envoy also met with Edan Alexander, who was released the day before by Hamas, at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv and assured that they had spoken on the phone with the U.S. president, according to a post on X.

"After months of captivity, his courage and resilience inspire the entire world," he said. "We remain determined to bring every hostage home," he added.

Of the 251 people abducted in Israel during the attack on October 7, 57 are still being held in Gaza, including 34 declared dead by the Israeli army.

Hamas is also holding the body of an Israeli soldier killed during a previous war in the Palestinian territory in 2014.
