The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas announced on Sunday, following discussions with American representatives about a truce in Gaza, that it will release the Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander, who has been held in the Palestinian territory since the attacks of Oct. 7, 2023.

"Edan Alexander will be released as part of efforts for a cease-fire, opening of crossing points, and entry of aid and relief to our people" in the Gaza Strip, Hamas said in a statement.
