Four people were killed in overnight clashes between security forces and Druze fighters in the suburbs of Damascus amid sectarian tensions, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Tuesday.
According to the NGO, "the security forces launched an assault" on the predominantly Druze suburb of Jaramana after a voice message attributed to a Druze individual and deemed blasphemous towards Islam was circulated. A resident of Jaramana told AFP they heard gunfire exchanges during the night, where activity was frozen on Tuesday morning.
