In the case of the alleged embezzlement of funds from the central bank’s “consultation account,” the indictment issued on April 8 by Beirut’s interim First Investigating Judge, Bilal Halawi, is now in the hands of the Beirut indictment chamber. Judge Halawi’s decision was automatically referred to the higher jurisdiction, presided over by Nassib Elia. Halawi indicted former BDL governor Riad Salameh on charges of embezzlement of public funds, document forgery and illicit enrichment, along with lawyers Micky Tueni and Marwan Issa al-Khoury for facilitating transfers that allegedly moved funds from the “consultation account” to Salameh’s personal account.
