At least 25 people, including six members of the same family, were killed in new Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip Thursday morning, announced the Palestinian Civil Defense and hospital sources.
The Indonesian hospital in Jabalia reported receiving the bodies of nine victims after an Israeli bombing on a police station in this city in the north of the Palestinian territory. The Israeli army confirmed in a statement that it carried out a strike in the Jabalia region, stating that it targeted "terrorists operating in a Hamas and Islamic Jihad command and control center."
Another airstrike on a house in the northern city of Gaza (north) killed a family of six people, a couple and their four children, indicated the Civil Defense in Gaza. "What can I say? The destruction spares no one," lamented the cousin of the father of the family, Nidal al-Sarafiti, to AFP.
This rescue organization also reported five deaths in two other strikes: two killed in the bombing of a tent of displaced persons in Khan Younis (south) and three others, including a child, in a strike in al-Zawaida (center). Also in Khan Younis, Nasser hospital announced receiving the bodies of two victims after a strike on a family home.
AFP images on-site show people extinguishing flames caused by the bombing and others inspecting the rubble by torchlight. "We were sitting in peace when the missile fell ... I just don't understand," said a witness, Mohammed Faris, to AFP. Al-Aqsa hospital reported receiving three bodies after a strike on a tent of displaced persons in the Nuseirat camp (center).
Breaking a truce of nearly two months in the war that began more than a year and a half ago, Israel resumed its air and then ground offensive in the Gaza Strip on March 18, where at least 1,978 Palestinians have been killed since, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health. This toll brings to 51,355 the number of deaths in the Gaza Strip, according to the same source, since the beginning of the Israeli offensive launched in retaliation for the Hamas attack in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. The unprecedented Hamas attack resulted in the death of 1,218 people on the Israeli side, the majority being civilians, according to an AFP count based on official data. Of the 251 people abducted on October 7, 2023, 58 are still hostages in Gaza, of whom 34 have died, according to the Israeli army.
