Hamas delegation is en route to Cairo to discuss with mediators "new ideas" for a truce in the Gaza Strip after 18 months of war, a Palestinian movement official told AFP on Tuesday.

The delegation, which includes the Hamas chief negotiator, Khalil Hayyeh, "will hold meetings with Egyptian officials regarding new ideas aimed at reaching a cease-fire" in the Palestinian territory, this official said, just days after Hamas rejected an Israeli proposal for a temporary truce.
