BEIRUT - The press office of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed Thursday that he keeps "equally distant" from the candidates in the municipal elections in Beirut and all regions, scheduled every Sunday in Lebanon starting from May 4.

In a statement, Salam's press office emphasized that he "is committed to preserving the neutrality of the executive power in the municipal elections," noting that the government's goal is "to ensure the integrity of the electoral process."

The last municipal elections in Lebanon took place in 2016, with councils being elected for six years. The election has since been postponed three times, in 2022, 2023, and 2024. A large number of municipal councils are therefore resigning or unable to carry out their tasks due to a lack of financial and human resources.
