Berlin is in the process of evacuating about 25 German citizens from the Gaza Strip, targeted by Israeli strikes and deprived of humanitarian aid for a month and a half, the German Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday.

"The evacuation of two dozen German nationals from Gaza is currently underway," said a spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry, when asked about this matter during a press briefing in Berlin.

The spokesperson said they "could not yet" provide further details as the operation was "ongoing," adding only that it was being conducted in close collaboration with Israeli authorities. They noted that in the Gaza Strip remained a small number, less than ten, German nationals who wanted to leave.

On April 2, Germany had already announced the evacuation of 19 of its citizens and 14 of their family members from the Gaza Strip. The small territory, where 2.4 million inhabitants are crammed, suffers from a shortage of food, water, fuel, and other essential goods, according to U.N. and humanitarian organizations.

Israel has been blocking humanitarian aid from entering the Palestinian territory since March 2, where the U.N. observes an alarming situation for the 2.4 million inhabitants after 18 months of war between Israel and Hamas.
