Palestinian Civil Defense announced Wednesday 11 people killed, including women and children, in Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip.

"Our teams transferred to al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City 10 martyrs and several injured, including a number of children and women, following the targeting of the Hassouna family home," Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for this relief organization, told AFP. He specified that the strike took place "at dawn" in the al-Tuffah neighborhood, northeast of Gaza City. When reached by AFP about this strike, the Israeli army did not immediately respond. A young girl was also killed in the bombing of a house west of Khan Younis, in the south of the Palestinian territory.

The Israeli army announced earlier Wednesday that it had killed "the deputy commander of the Gaza brigade of Hamas" a few days earlier in the center of the Palestinian territory. The man, identified in a statement as Mahmoud Ibrahim Hassan Abou Hisirah, is reportedly involved in the Oct. 7 attack, as well as in a 2014 attack on Israeli soldiers.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz reiterated Wednesday that "Israel's policy in Gaza" is "clear and unequivocal," aimed at "the future defeat of Hamas" and "the release of all hostages." "If Hamas continues to refuse (to release them, ed.), operations will intensify," he said.

Israel resumed bombardments on the Gaza Strip on March 18, ending a two-month truce with Hamas. The war was triggered by the unprecedented attack by the Palestinian movement in Israel on Oct.7, 2023.

The Gaza Health Ministry authorities indicated Tuesday that at least 1,630 Palestinians had been killed since the resumption of the Israeli offensive, bringing the death toll to 51,000 since the start of this war.

Efforts to restore the ceasefire have so far remained in vain. Hamas said it received and is reviewing an Israeli proposal received through Egyptian mediators on a possible truce. Israel has not commented on the matter.
