MP Adnan Traboulsi (Beirut II, Ahbash) stated on Monday after a meeting in Ain al-Tineh with the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, that "no legislative session will be convened to postpone or modify the municipal elections."

The municipal elections will be held "as planned," every Sunday in May starting on the 4th, Traboulsi stated. MPs Mark Daou and Waddah Sadek recently proposed a law to delay the vote by a few months for logistical reasons. However, political leaders, including Berri, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar, repeatedly said that the election, postponed annually since 2022, will take place on the scheduled dates.

"Beirut has a special status and will be fairly shared, with the participation of all political forces currently present on the Lebanese scene," the MP said, according to comments reported by the state-run National News Agency (NNA). Representation within the Beirut municipality has been the subject of much discussion in recent weeks amid debates on the municipal elections, as parliamentarians from the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) tabled a proposal to split the municipal council in two along the lines of the former divisions of West and East Beirut. Regarding the vote in the capital, Traboulsi stated that a parliamentary meeting would be held soon, stating that "the city's development must be a common concern." The goal is "to reach an agreement on the formation of a unified list, representative of all political parties," he said.

Meanwhile, on the ground in North Lebanon, the pre-election process is officially underway with the opening of candidacy submissions, according to L'Orient Today's correspondent in the region. In this region, where the vote will take place on May 11, 130 municipal councils will be elected in 160 localities. In Halba (Akkar), dozens of candidates came to submit their candidacies before the April 30 deadline.
