Rayak Hospital, located in the Bekaa district, was subjected Friday night to gunfire by a group of individuals, the Health Ministry said in a statement released on Saturday night.
"This is a serious security breach that endangered the hospital staff and patients, including one patient who was receiving treatment in the hospital's emergency department. The attack lasted for six continuous hours," the ministry said.
The Ministry of Public Health "strongly reiterates its condemnation of this unacceptable targeting of a medical facility that provides care and medical services to citizens." It called on the security forces to hold the perpetrators fully accountable and to take the most stringent measures against them, reaffirming that any violation of the sanctity of healthcare facilities and their staff "who remain the first line of defense for the health of citizens and the community is completely unacceptable."
L'Orient Today was unable to confirm the reason behind the assault on the hospital at the time of publication of this article.
