The Lebanese Ministry of Interior announced that women wishing to run in the municipal elections can do so in their original localities, even if their names are not on the voter lists of the localities where they are running. This decision applies to married candidates who are de facto registered in the localities of their husbands, according to a statement from the ministry.

In Lebanon, the names of married women are crossed out from the personal status registers and the voter lists of their original localities and are then registered in the localities of their husbands.

The next municipal elections are scheduled for May. This election has been postponed year after year since 2022 by Parliament due to the socio-economic crisis, and in 2024, because of the war in South Lebanon.
