Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced last Wednesday the creation of a new military corridor in the Gaza Strip, called the Morag axis. This marks a shift in Israel’s strategy after 18 months of war in the Palestinian territory. In a recorded statement, Netanyahu said the Israeli army was “shifting gears” and establishing a new “Philadelphia route,” referring to the corridor along Gaza’s southern border with Egypt, which Israel seized in May 2024. “The Israeli army is taking control of the territory, striking terrorists, and destroying infrastructure,” he said, adding that this initiative was part of a broader effort to reshape the battlefield.
