The Hezbollah MP Ali Fayad denounced on Saturday the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, asserting that there will be "no surrender, no capitulation, no normalization" with Israel, in a statement made amidst the visit of the American envoy Morgan Ortagus to Lebanese officials, while Israel expressed its willingness to normalize its relations with Beirut eventually.

At the funeral of Hezbollah members in Odaisseh, southern Lebanon, Fayad emphasized "the importance of a united Lebanese stance against these threats."

"We affirm that there will be no surrender, no capitulation, and no normalization," he continued.

‘Assassination policy’

"The enemy practices a policy of assassination, provocation, and escalation, either for us to accept [this situation] or to be dragged into a new war, even though we are not going to accept this and we do not want to return to war," Fayad stressed. "We are aware of Lebanon’s interest and act accordingly. We hope that the Lebanese position remains united and harmonious as a state, government, army, and resistance because Lebanon, its state, its people, and its land are threatened and everyone is in the same boat."

According to Fayad, "the solution is clear and simple: the Israeli enemy must withdraw from our territory and cease all forms of hostilities. In return, we fully commit to respecting Resolution 1701, its provisions, and its mechanisms, including the cease-fire."

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated on Thursday that Israel wished to "normalize its relations with Lebanon." He also mentioned ongoing negotiations, although this might seem "premature from a Lebanese point of view." On the other hand, the Lebanese Foreign Minister Joe Rajji on Friday ruled out a normalization of relations with Israel.
