China asserted on Tuesday that initiatives for Taiwan's independence were 'doomed to fail,' as the Chinese military conduct's significant military maneuvers around the island.

'The persistent stubbornness of the (Taiwan) authorities regarding the position on Taiwan's independence, and their futile attempt to separate the country from the outside by seeking independence,' is 'doomed to fail,' said the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a regular press conference.
