We have poet Pierre Reverdy to thank for this very beautiful phrase about love: "There is no love, there are only proofs of love." It is useless to tell someone you love them if there is no proof of your love.The same thing can be said for hatred. But here, the temptation to destroy the other, and some times even the attempt to, is always present. In love, if there is no love because there is no proof of love, the other is relatively preserved because the worst thing they are faced with is a lie. In hatred, the urge for destruction is always there. And since it is difficult to bear hatred within oneself — unlike love which is a happy feeling — even if it is not reciprocated, we project this hatred onto the other. The projection onto the other of a feeling that belongs to us is a well-known phenomenon in the world of psychology....
