The Lebanese Interior Ministry officially set on Monday the dates for municipal elections across Lebanon, which will take place every Sunday in May in different regions of the country. These elections have been postponed since 2022 by Parliament due to the socio-economic crisis and later, in 2024, due to the war in the south.

The elections will be held as follows:

- On May 4 in Mount Lebanon

- On May 11 in North Lebanon and Akkar

- On May 18 in Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and Baalbeck-Hermel

- And on May 25 in South Lebanon and Nabatieh.

Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar stated at the beginning of March that he intends to organize municipal elections in southern Lebanon, despite the massive destruction it has suffered due to Israeli strikes in the region. Despite the cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah, Israel continues to conduct raids in the South and the Bekaa against alleged members of Hezbollah.

Several political parties have started preparations for this deadline and announced various alliances based on the regions. The Amal Movement, in particular, announced its alliance with Hezbollah, across all regions, for this election.

The last municipal elections in Lebanon took place in 2016, and councils were elected for six years. A significant number of municipal councils have since resigned or are unable to carry out their duties effectively due to a lack of financial and human resources.
