The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) expressed serious concern over the potential escalation of violence after four rockets were observed being fired from Lebanon toward Israel on Saturday morning, in the vicinity of Metula, UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti told L’Orient-Le Jour.

The rocket fire "prompted an immediate response by the Israeli Defense Forces," according to the UN peacekeeping force.

"We strongly urge all parties to refrain from taking actions that could undermine the progress achieved, particularly in light of the threat to civilian lives and the fragile stability the region has seen in recent months," Tenenti said.

He added: "Any further escalation in this unstable context could have grave consequences for the region. The situation remains extremely fragile, and we encourage both parties to honor their commitments. UNIFIL peacekeepers continue to carry out their duties at all of their positions."
