‘There is no Eid this year’: Nabatieh observes muted Ramadan after cease-fire with Israel
As the southern city marks its first Ramadan after the war between Hezbollah and Israel, the usual warmth of the holy month has been replaced by grief and absence.

NABATIEH – Nour sat behind the front desk of her small clothing shop in the heart of Nabatieh’s souk, a picture of the slain leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, staged prominently next to her for all to see.Her store was neat, modern and impeccably clean with not even the slightest indication of any dust on the floor; a stark contrast to what was just beyond her glass doors.Beyond the makeshift market stalls, covered by thin white sheets to protect the sellers from the ever more brutal sun where a few potential customers negotiated the price of second-hand clothes and various goods for their homes with the vendors, were the grotesque remains of buildings destroyed by Israeli airstrikes in its recent war with Hezbollah.
