BEIRUT — The Lebanese Army said in a statement on Wednesday that its forces killed a person who had opened fire on a soldier, along with another person accompanying him, in Berkayel, in the northern Akkar district in northern Lebanon. A soldier was wounded in the incident.
“On March 19, 2025, while a patrol was in the village of Berkayel to arrest a citizen wanted for shooting, this person opened fire on the patrol, injuring a soldier,” the statement read.
The army returned fire, killing the gunman and another person with him. Troops seized their weapons, and an investigation has been opened.
