More than 13,000 Syrians have fled to northern Lebanon due to massacres that took place on the Syrian coast in early March, Lebanese authorities said on Tuesday. According to a report seen by L'Orient Today, the Disaster Management Center recorded the arrival of 13,104 Syrians in 23 predominantly Alawite villages in the Akkar region, where they are staying with locals or in warehouses.

Entire families were killed during the massacres, costing the lives of more than 1,500 civilians, mostly Alawites, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
