AKKAR — Fighting broke out on Tuesday between the rival "Ghazaoui" and 'Khamis' clans in the village of Awada, near the border area of Wadi Khaled between Lebanon and Syria.

The fighting reportedly broke out following a dispute, and escalated into an exchange of gunfire that injured two people, who were subsequently evacuated by the Lebanese Red Cross to regional hospitals. Accompanied by grenade attacks, the gunfire also caused material damage to properties and parked vehicles and caused panic among the villages residents.

The Lebanese Army was rapidly deployed to the scene, and patrols were conducted to ensure the area's security. Law enforcement also launched searches to apprehend the individuals responsible for the shooting who had already fled.

Tensions are extremely high in the northern Lebanon regions that border Syria, as a myriad of events have caused a swiftly changing political and social landscape, including the toppling of the Assad regime in Syria, the massacres in Latakia, and cross-border fighting between Lebanese clans and Syria's new forces.
