The new commander of the Lebanese Army, General Rodolph Haykal, appointed General Nicolas Tabet as the head of the southern Litani sector, according to information obtained by L'Orient-Le Jour. He will succeed General Edgard Lawandos, who was appointed on Thursday in a Cabinet meeting as the new head of State Security.
This position is particularly sensitive following the last war between Israel and Hezbollah, which resulted in a cease-fire requiring both parties to implement United Nations Resolution 1701. The agreement entails the demilitarization of the party south of the Litani and the deployment of the Lebanese army.
