A day after acting Top Prosecutor Jamal Hajjar freed the hands of the Judge Tarek Bitar, lead investigator into the Aug. 4, 2020 Beirut Port explosion case, another attempt at obstructing Bitar’s way emerged. Hajjar had just allowed judicial police to cooperate with Bitar after a two year ban.Then, on Tuesday, the relatives of Ibrahim Ali Amin, a victim of the blast, filed a complaint before the public prosecutor’s office, for alleged “usurpation of power, influence peddling, and sectarian divisions.” Their lawyer refused to provide details to L’Orient-Le Jour about the complaint, only confirming its existence.Some of the victims’ relatives had distanced themselves from the initial group formed after Aug. 4, accusing Judge Bitar of politicizing the investigation in October 2021.
