A Syrian man was kidnapped in Syrian territory while working on a tanker involved in the smuggling and transportation of diesel into Syria from Lebanon, a security source told L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the Bekaa.
His mother is Lebanese and he resides in the town of Labweh in northern Bekaa, according to our correspondent.
Negotiations are currently ongoing for his release, according to a security source.
Syria shares a 330-kilometer border with Lebanon, with no official demarcation at various points, rendering it prone to smuggling.
In early January, Syrian authorities began closing down illegal crossings near northern and eastern Lebanon.
