BEIRUT — Lebanese President Joseph Aoun briefed Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Friday on his talks in Riyadh with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, as well as the atmosphere of the extraordinary Arab summit in Cairo that was held on Tuesday, according to the state-run National News Agency (NNA).
Aoun and Berri also discussed the situation in general and in southern Lebanon specifically.
Aoun traveled to Riyadh for his first official foreign trip to improve the relationship between the two countries, which had been strained by years of regional tensions. He then went to Cairo for an extraordinary Arab summit on Gaza, where the final declaration had included a call for a permanent cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon and the disarmament of the party.
Aoun also met on Friday with Defense Minister Michel Menassa, according to NNA. They both discussed the security situation in the country, including the army's deployment in the south.
