The death toll from the shooting that erupted Thursday night in Tripoli, northern Lebanon, among members of the Dib family, rose to two Friday morning with the death of one of the injured, a young man, according to information from our correspondent Michel Hallak. Youssef H. succumbed to his injuries at dawn. Two other people were injured, one of whom is in serious condition.
On Thursday evening, a dispute in the Mankoubin neighborhood escalated into an armed confrontation and exchange of gunfire between members of the Dib family. The Lebanese Army then imposed a security cordon and carried out searches in the neighborhood to find the shooters, arresting five people. Another shooting had occurred earlier in the day in the Kobbeh neighborhood, also in Tripoli, wounding one person.
These incidents occurred against a backdrop of heightened security measures in Tripoli. Driven by Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar and General Director of the Internal Security Forces, General Imad Osman, the police recently implemented a comprehensive security plan for Ramadan in March. This plan includes roadblocks and the deployment of motorized and pedestrian patrols throughout the city.
