The Lebanese Army reported the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of a "quantity of smuggled goods," according to a statement relayed by the state-run National News Agency (NNA).
"With the support of an intelligence directorate patrol," the army raided the residences of wanted individuals in Shadra, Semmaqieh, Khirbet Daoud and Safinet al-Qaitah (Akkar), as well as in Beddawi (Tripoli). The statement specified that the troops seized weapons with war ammunition and a large quantity of drugs.
This announcement was made after Interior Minister Ahmad al-Hajjar announced at the beginning of the week a security plan for North Lebanon.
Additionally, other individuals were apprehended, including a Syrian national, in the Masharih al-Qaa region near the Syrian border in Hermel, "for attempting to illegally bring in two tankers carrying a large quantity of gas and foodstuffs" to Syria.
"The seized items have been handed over and the investigation of the detainees has commenced under the supervision of the competent judicial authorities," the statement concluded.
