The Minister of Education, Rima Karameh, issued a circular urging schools, high schools, institutes and vocational schools to commit to singing the Lebanese national anthem at the beginning of each week, the state-run National News Agency reported on Monday.
The circular stated that "in order to strengthen students' sense of national belonging and in accordance with applicable administrative regulations and procedures, school principals and directors of public high schools and vocational institutes are required to permanently raise the Lebanese flag over the buildings housing these institutions."
They are also asked to "sing the Lebanese national anthem every Monday morning before students enter their classrooms and remove any partisan flags or symbols from school buildings," the circular added.
"All principals and directors of schools, high schools, institutes, and public vocational schools are required to comply with this circular," it stated.
