One man was accidentally killed Monday after being present at the scene of an armed clash in Beddawi, north of Tripoli in the Minyeh-Dinnieh district, our correspondent in the region reported.
A chase took place between a patrol from one of the security agencies and a wanted individual. The situation escalated into an exchange of gunfire, shooting an individual who was present at the scene at the time of the clash. The victim was a dentist.
Immediately, the security forces and the army intelligence cordoned the area, and investigations are ongoing under the supervision of the relevant judicial authorities.
Since December 2022, following a series of security incidents, including fatal shootings, former caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced a specific security plan for northern Lebanon.
Police patrols were deployed in the streets for surveillance and control purposes. However, this plan has not prevented numerous incidents from occurring in Tripoli.
A bystander was also shot in the head and killed Sunday evening in Beirut’s Burj al-Barajneh neighborhood following a clash between local residents.
