A gas tanker transporting domestic-use gas exploded Sunday on the outskirts of the village of Doussa, in Akkar, killing several people and injuring others, according to our correspondent in North Lebanon, Michel Hallak. The explosion caused panic among residents of the area, he added, with at least four fatalities reported — a mother and her three children, all Syrian nationals, according to the Red Cross.
More than five fire trucks from the Civil Defense, coming from various centers, are working to extinguish the fire, fearing it could spread and reach a nearby fuel tank.
This incident is not the first of its kind in this part of the country. In 2021, the explosion of a fuel tank in Tleil killed more than 30 people and injured over 100 others. The village of Doussa had lost four of its residents in that tragedy.
