The Tripoli Municipal Police, under the supervision of Police Chief Rabih al-Hafez and with the support of the Intelligence and Lebanese Army forces, began removing encroachments and violations on public property on Sunday, according to our correspondent in the north.

This operation follows an armed clash that took place Saturday evening in the old vegetable market area near the Abu Ali River Bridge in Tripoli. The exchange of gunfire, stemming from a dispute over the establishment of vegetable and fruit stalls, resulted in three injuries, our correspondent reported.

The operation targeted all stalls in the area, including those around the Beisar cold storage, the Abu Ali River Bridge intersection, the old vegetable market, and the surroundings of the Bab al-Tabbaneh cemetery, all located in Tripoli.

Since December 2022, following a series of security incidents, including fatal shootings, former caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced a specific security plan for northern Lebanon.

Police patrols were deployed in the streets for surveillance and control purposes. However, this plan has not prevented numerous incidents from occurring in Tripoli.

Lebanon’s financial collapse, which began in 2019, has dealt a major blow to the security situation.
