As Ramadan approaches, Israel is considering imposing new restrictions on access to al-Aqsa Mosque compound, a holy site in occupied Jerusalem's Old City that frequently finds itself the subject of tensions and violence. According to several Israeli media outlets, the proposed measures bar entry to the mosque by any Palestinian recently released by Israel as part of the ongoing hostage exchange agreement in Gaza. The Israeli channel Kan reports that a substantial security presence, including some 3,000 police officers, will be deployed at checkpoints leading to the mosque. The scale of the security setup would largely depend on the situation in Gaza, as the truce is fragile.
