The Kataeb party on Tuesday called on Hezbollah to "organize and implement the disarmament of its fighters and comply with the constitution and laws," according to a statement read by its leader, Samy Gemayel.

"As political life in Lebanon begins to return to normal and the ministerial statement is discussed in Parliament, it is legitimate to give the new government the opportunity, first endorsed by the Lebanese and then by the international community, to begin its program," wrote the Christian party. "If Hezbollah is truly determined to return to the fold of the state, it is its duty to quickly schedule a process to hand over its weapons to the legitimate authority and comply with the provisions of the constitution and laws, just like the rest of the Lebanese people," it added.

The party also considered that the withdrawal of weapons from the party, as well as from all militias, is part of an effort to restore the "full sovereignty" of the state.

The Kataeb also welcomed "the statement by President of the Republic Joseph Aoun before the Iranian delegation affirming that Lebanon is tired of others' wars on its territory and that it adheres to the two-state solution on the Palestinian issue," considering that "this statement constitutes a sound approach aimed at placing Lebanon away from the conflicts that have destroyed the region."
