The Lebanese Civil Defense announced Monday that during the funerals of two former Hezbollah leaders, Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine, on Sunday, it assisted 29 people, 11 of whom were hospitalized.
At the end of a weekend marked by crowded funerals and bad weather, the rescue organization reported that in the southern suburbs of Beirut, it handled 29 emergencies involving discomfort, falls, fainting, or burns. "Eleven injured individuals were taken to hospitals as follows: 3 to Rassoul al-Aazam Hospital, 3 to Sahel Hospital (including a girl), 2 to Zahraa Hospital, 1 to Hariri Hospital, 1 to Hayat Hospital and 1 to Saint-Georges Hospital, in coordination with the Health Ministry," Civil Defense stated in a Monday release.
Civil Defense specified that it implemented an "exceptional action plan" to ensure public safety at the Sports City, where the ceremony took place on Sunday, "per the directives of the Interior and Municipalities Minister Ahmed Hajjar."
The organization stated that its teams were mobilized from Saturday night to Sunday, as thousands of people converged hours in advance to the southern suburbs of Beirut, and established rescue stations in Bekaa, along the coast, in localities around Beirut, in Khalde, south of the capital and the southern suburbs themselves. "The teams remained positioned at these points until the end of the ceremony and until the roads were cleared, to ensure a rapid response to any emergency," the statement added.
Civil Defense will continue its actions on Monday to secure the funeral ceremony of the late Secretary-General Hashem Safieddine, who will be buried in his hometown of Deir Qanoun el-Nahr (Sour district).
