The Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has been invited by his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmajid Tebboune, to visit Algeria soon, reports the presidency on its X account. The invitation was handed to the Lebanese head of state by Ahmed Attaf, the Algerian Foreign Minister.

Algeria has also expressed its desire "to strengthen the ties between the two brotherly countries," reports the Presidential Palace. For his part, Aoun stated that he "will work to strengthen the relations between the two countries" and that "Lebanon is indebted to Algeria for its support of its causes, particularly at the U.N. Security Council," where Algiers has repeatedly condemned Israel's operations and abuses in Lebanon during the war against Hezbollah.

In the afternoon, Attaf was received by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, who has just formed his government after weeks of political negotiations.

The Algerian minister congratulated his host on the formation of the Cabinet and expressed his country’s readiness to provide all necessary support to Lebanon "to face future challenges." For his part, Salam expressed hope for strengthening ties between the two countries, particularly through the activation of the High Lebanese-Algerian Joint Commission and the Algerian-Lebanese Business Council.

Attaf also visited Ain al-Tineh, where he met with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who emphasized the longstanding relations between Lebanon and Algeria and praised Algeria’s support for Lebanon. The discussions primarily focused on the situation in southern Lebanon, where the Israeli army continues to occupy several villages and is in the process of withdrawing under the ceasefire agreement that took effect on Nov. 27.
