BEIRUT — The municipality of Ramieh, in southern Lebanon's Bint Jbeil district, said Wednesday that Lebanese Army intelligence services had informed local authorities of plans to set up two checkpoints in the area, which remains under Israeli occupation. According to a statement from the municipality, the army will also open "several secondary roads," and on Feb. 7, its "engineering corps will begin monitoring and clearing the rubble of the Israeli aggression in the town."

‘It's about time’: Lebanese Army deployment in southern Lebanon

The Israeli army continues to occupy several villages in southern Lebanon, with a withdrawal deadline set for Feb. 18, extended in January under the terms of the cease-fire agreement.

The Israeli forces have been demolishing houses and infrastructure in the areas where they remain deployed and have launched intermittent drone strikes. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Army continues its deployment and reinforcement in other areas.

On Wednesday, Israeli troops reportedly set fire to several homes in Robb Thalathin, in the Marjayoun district, according to L’Orient Today’s regional correspondent.

Additionally, Wajih Zahwi, a seven-year-old boy from Majdal Selm, has died from injuries sustained in an Israeli drone attack at the end of January, our correspondent added. The child suffered a head injury from shrapnel when an Israeli drone dropped a bomb near him on Jan. 29.
