President Joseph Aoun met with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the Presidential Palace in Baabda on Wednesday, the state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.
"They discussed the general situation, particularly the recent developments in the south, as well as some matters related to the interim management of affairs," NNA reported.
Aoun was elected on Jan.9 after almost two years of a double executive vacancy. Mikati's government has been operating in caretaker status for the past two years.
Former ICJ judge Nawaf Salam has been tasked with the formation of a government and consultations are ongoing for the appointment of new ministers.
The Aoun also received the credentials of 23 ambassadors stationed in Beirut, including the French ambassador Hervé Magro.
