Druze Sheikh Sami Abi al-Mona called Monday for the formation of a "new government to meet the Lebanese people's needs for reform and stability," the state-run National News Agency reported.
"A government that understands the importance of the state and its institutions playing an active and influential role, especially in southern regions, to revive areas facing Israeli aggression and support the army’s presence," he said.
During his visit to Hasbaya and border towns after the recent Israeli war, Abi al-Mona "was welcomed by religious, political, and social figures," NNA reported.
He also visited several places of significance to the Druze faith, including the Al-Irfan school in Hasbaya, emphasizing "the role of education in carrying forward the values of unity, ethics, and the preservation of faith and culture."
Abi al-Mona concluded his visit with a call for "national unity and the importance of remaining vigilant against external challenges while fostering cultural and social resilience."
On Feb.9, Joseph Aoun was elected as the President of Lebanon, after over two years of vacancy. Former ICJ judge Nawaf Salam was tasked with forming a government.
