BEIRUT — U.S. President Donald Trump's choice for deputy special presidential envoy for Middle East peace is Morgan Deann Ortagus: political commentator, Navy Reserves officer, former U.S. Treasury intelligence analyst, and, during Trump's previous term, State Department spokesperson.The 42-year-old was appointed in early January as the replacement to Amos Hochstein, who, as senior adviser to former President Joe Biden, was a key negotiator of several deals between Lebanon and Israel, the most critical being the November cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah that ended two months of devastating all-out war.
