Helene Iskandar shaking hands with her temporary successor, Claude Ghanem.
Judge Helene Iskandar, who retired on Tuesday after reaching the legal retirement age, handed over the leadership of the State Litigation Department on Thursday to her colleague, Claude Ghanem, the current deputy government commissioner at the Military Court.
Ghanem was appointed temporarily by caretaker Justice Minister Henri Khoury. With a fully functioning government, the authority to appoint the head of the State Litigation Department rests with the minister.
During the handover at her office, Iskandar expressed her willingness to use her experience to assist her successor "in the interest of the State and the Lebanese." This gesture appears to be aimed at compensating for the limited time available to transfer ongoing cases.
For his part, Ghanem expressed his commitment to his temporary role, saying he would devote the same level of dedication as he had in his previous positions.
