Testimonies from Beirut

Experience chaos from a distance

In this episode of "Testimonies from Beirut," we revisit the experiences of Lebanese people living abroad during the war—those who, as our interviewee puts it, "suffered the chaos from a distance."

For him, the war was a blur of constant news broadcasts, endless phone calls with relatives still in Lebanon, and scrolling through social media, anxiously watching images unfold. All the while, he worried about his home in the south and his parents, who were forced to flee to Beirut on September 23.

The true shock came later, in the days after the ceasefire, when he returned and saw the devastation firsthand. "The images reminded me of Gaza," he reflects. Marked by the despair of the friends and family he has now reunited with, he feels the war has profoundly changed him. One day, he is sure, he will return to live in Lebanon.
