Air France and Transavia flights to Lebanon remain suspended

Transavia has announced that its service to Beirut will be suspended until the end of the winter flying season at the end of March, according to a spokesperson for the low-cost subsidiary of the Air France-KLM group.

Air France has extended its suspension of flights to Lebanon and Israel "due to the security situation," the airline announced on Monday.

"Air France is extending the suspension of its services between Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle and Tel Aviv [Israel] until Jan. 17, 2025, inclusive. Services between Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle and Beirut [Lebanon] are suspended until Jan. 31, 2025, inclusive," the carrier told AFP. According to the same source, "the resumption of operations will remain subject to an assessment of the situation on site," and "the customers concerned will be notified individually and offered solutions for postponement or reimbursement."

Air France stopped operating its flights to Beirut after the simultaneous explosion across Lebanon of beepers used by the Hezbollah movement on Sept. 17. The airline also stopped service to Tel Aviv from Paris on Sept. 30.

Transavia, the low-cost subsidiary of the Air France-KLM group, announced it has suspended its Beirut service through the end of the winter season, which concludes in March. The airline has also extended the suspension of flights to Tel Aviv until Jan. 27. Germany's Lufthansa has suspended its flights to Tel Aviv until at least Jan. 31.

Meanwhile, indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel resumed this weekend in Qatar, aimed at reaching a cease-fire and securing the release of hostages held in Gaza since Hamas' attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. On Sunday, Hamas announced it was prepared to release 34 Israeli hostages as part of a phased agreement, though Israel emphasized it had not yet received a list of hostages from Hamas.
