Syria’s new foreign minister, Asaad al-Chibani, began an official visit to Qatar on Sunday, marking his first trip to the Gulf state since the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad nearly a month ago.
The minister arrived in Doha on Sunday morning for meetings, a Syrian diplomat in the Qatari capital and a Qatari official told AFP. Qatar was the second country, after Turkey, to reopen its embassy in Damascus following the fall of Assad’s regime.
