BEIRUT — Over 100 volunteers from civil society organizations in Saida launched a "solidarity cleanup campaign" early Friday morning in the streets of Nabatieh, our correspondent in southern Lebanon reported.

The volunteers, including both young men and women, departed from the municipality building in buses, as part of a solidarity initiative by the Saida municipality and civil institutions.

The campaign is supported by head of Saida's municipality Dr. Hazem Bdeih, added our correspondent.

In Nabatieh, more than 50 volunteers from local civil institutions joined the effort. Jamal Shaib, head of the Solidarity and Development Association, one of the campaign organizers, told L'Orient Today that this day is one of "solidarity action from Saida to Nabatieh, just as it was from Saida to Sour before. This joint cleanup campaign expresses national solidarity and aims to restore normal life to Nabatieh."

She added that the cleanup efforts targeted several main streets in the town.

On Dec.21, civil society associations in Saida organized a rubble-clearing campaign in Sour.

In the last war between Hezbollah and Israel, Nabatieh was repeatedly targeted, most notably in October when Israeli airstrikes targeted the municipal headquarters in Nabatieh, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 municipal staff members, including the town's mayor.
