A femicide took place on Thursday inside the cherished court of Shehime, in Chouf, sources told L'Orient Today's correspondent and the state-rune National News Agency (NNA).

Following divorce proceedings, a man, K.M., from Ketermaya, also in Chouf, shot his wife, A.R., a journalist from Daraya. She died instantly. According to a security source contacted by L'Orient Today, the perpetrator of the murder fled the court and then committed suicide in his car.

Internal security forces mobilized at the scene and opened an investigation.

Shortly after his wife's death, the husband posted a video on his Facebook account in which he opened up about the "differences" in his marriage and said the couple had three children.

The Sharia courts are, for the Muslim communities in Lebanon, the jurisdictions responsible for dealing with matters relating to personal status, such as marriage, divorce, child custody and inheritance, in the absence of a unified civil status.
