On a sandy field surrounded by tents, a group of brightly dressed young girls perform the dabke under the soft autumn light. Enthusiastically, a crowd of children joins in singing while men seated on white plastic chairs strum their ouds. It’s a fleeting moment of joy in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, where the surrounding trees offer some respite from the devastation all around.Since the war began in October 2023, teachers from the Gaza branch of the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music, headquartered in East Jerusalem, have been traveling through the enclave to continue teaching music to young Palestinians displaced by the war.
