Lebanese taxi driver kidnapped near Syrian border on Dec. 15 reportedly released

Hussein Nabil Moussawi, a Lebanese citizen kidnapped on Dec. 15, 2024, in a photo circulating on social networks and shared by his family.

Hussein Nabil Moussawi, a 25-year-old Lebanese driver who has been missing since Dec. 15 while traveling to Syria, is reportedly on his way to Lebanon on Monday evening after being released by his captors, according to L'Orient-Le Jour's correspondent. The young man was said to have contacted his family to inform them of his release and imminent return without further details on the circumstances of his detention and release.

While he was picking up a Syrian family, Moussawi was reportedly kidnapped in the Kfeir region (Hasbaya), near the Lebanese border with Syria.

Contacted by L'Orient-Le Jour, the mayor of Nabi Sheet, a close friend of the young man, accused the Syrian Islamist rebels of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) of having kidnapped the young man.
