The Lebanese Parliament plans to send invitations to representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations to attend the parliamentary session scheduled for Jan. 9, shortly after Christmas, according to the daily Al-Diyar, which cited its own sources. The report was quickly echoed by other local media outlets.
This session will be dedicated to electing a new president following more than two years of a presidential vacancy that began after Michel Aoun’s term ended. The period has been characterized by deep political divisions, a severe multidimensional economic crisis and clashes between Hezbollah and Israel.
The daily added that administrative and logistical preparations for the session began last week.
