BEIRUT — The Lebanese Army Command announced Sunday that a specialized unit would detonate Israeli munitions in the village of Aitit, in the Sour district of southern Lebanon, between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.

The army has carried out numerous demining operations in areas bombarded by Israel before the ceasefire with Hezbollah, which came into effect on Nov. 27, pausing over a year of hostilities for at least two months. The operations have often involved uncovering munitions and missiles buried deep underground after penetrating buildings during the bombings. Despite the ceasefire, Israeli violations continue daily.

Later in the afternoon, explosions were heard from areas under Lebanese Army control near Taybeh, east of Baalbeck, where troops detonated unexploded rockets left behind by Israeli bombardments on the Bekaa Valley, according to our correspondent, Sarah Abdallah.

The conflict began on Oct. 8, 2023, when Hezbollah opened a support front for Gaza. It escalated dramatically with an unprecedented Israeli offensive starting on Sept. 23.
